In a shocking development coming from the Punjab Kings camp during the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Indian batsman and franchise captain KL Rahul has been transferred to a hospital after the premier opener complained of severe abdomen pain. The Punjab Kings skipper has been ruled out from the upcoming clash between PBKS and Delhi Capitals on matchday 29 of the IPL 2021.

Taking to Twitter on Sunday, the official handle of PBKS confirmed that skipper Rahul complained about abdomen pain last night and the Indian batsman was taken to the emergency room for further treatment. Later, it was revealed that Rahul has been diagnosed with acute appendicitis.

“KL Rahul complained of severe abdomen pain last night and after not responding to medication, he was taken to emergency room for further tests which revealed that he was diagnosed with acute appendicitis,” Punjab Kings said in a statement.”It will be resolved surgically and for safety measures, he has been transferred to the hospital for the same,” it added.

Rahul was set to lead the Punjab Kings side for their high-voltage clash against Rishabh Pant’s DC at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. Regarded as one of the finest batsmen in the cash-rich league, Rahul is the leading run-scorer in the IPL 2021 with 331 runs from seven matches. The PBKS opener guided the Preity Zinta co-owned franchise to a remarkable win over Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore in their previous outing

The current Orange Cap holder played out a sublime 91-run knock to help PBKS thrash RCB in the 14th edition of the cash-rich league. Under Rahul’s leadership, Punjab Kings are sitting at the fifth position on the points table with three wins and four defeats. In Rahul’s absence, opener and star batsman Mayank Agarwal will lead the Punjab Kings side against Delhi Capitals in match 29 of the ongoing IPL 2021 at the world’s largest stadium on Sunday
