India and China are working on a fresh date for the 12th round of military talks, Army officials said here on Thursday. According to a report by news agency ANI, the Indian and Chinese sides are expected to discuss disengagement from existing friction points in Depsang plains, Gogra and hot springs in the next round of meeting of the military commanders.
“For India-China 12th round of military talks, Chinese had suggested that the discussions be held on July 26 but India asked to work out fresh dates as the army would be celebrating Kargil Vijay Diwas. Fresh dates are being worked out between the two sides,” Army sources were quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries have been strained over the standoff in Ladakh. The latest round of talks is expected to take place on the backdrop of increased Chinese activity along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Barahot in Uttarakhand. According to reports, around 40 PLA men were spotted in the area after which the Indian Army responded appropriately by stepping up the vigilance in the area.
The 12th round of talks will discuss disengagement at remaining friction points along the LAC even though disengagement has already taken place from the north and south banks of the Pangong Tso.
