A first one-day international century from captain Liam Livingstone, along with a crucial 140-run partnership with Sam Curran, powered England to a five-wicket victory over the West Indies on Saturday. This win levelled out the three-match series 1-1.England needed just 329 against West Indies, which they easily chased with 15 balls remaining. The England skipper Livingstone, took the charge and showed enough potential by smashing 124 not out off just 85 balls.

Liam Livingstone’s Heroics Propel England Towards Victory

Formerly one of the best-hidden treasures of England cricket, Livingstone had scored four half-centuries in just 31 ODIs prior to becoming a captain. He was able to revive the side, and his first successful stint as captain saw England successfully chase the second highest ODI total ever successfully chased in the West Indies. Shai Hope’s 117 off 127 balls helped West Indies put the target at 328-6. England made a good start in the innings, with Phil Salt scoring 59 runs and Jacob Bethell making his first half-century.

Livingstone-Curran Partnership

Livingstone started out being pretty cautious but went out to get to his highest score for ODIs leaving all of his previous highs behind. In the final overs, he launched a full-scale attack, scoring 26 off Jayden Seales off the 45th over and then 24 off Shamar Joseph off the 46th to make the chase a rather easy one. The match was still in balance at 176-4 in the 30th over when Livingstone and Curran came together and needed 7.5 runs per over to win the match.

Curran scored a brisk 52 off 52 balls and lost his wicket in the 46th over. England needed only 29 runs to win and these were easily chased. The third match of the series is the ultimate decider and is scheduled to take place at Bridgetown, Barbados, on Wednesday, November 6.
