Veteran actress Hema Malini, known as Bollywood’s dream girl, has been one of the most beautiful stars in the Hindi film industry and an excellent dancer. She ruled the silver screen in the ’70s and ’80s and found many admirers. It was on the sets of a film that her love story with Dharmendra blossomed.
And their love story did defy all odds. Before tying the knot with Hema Malini, Dharmendra was already married to Prakash and had two children, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol. Although Hema, who was 13 years younger than him, did not respond to the actor’s advances initially, eventually, she reciprocated her feelings for him. In her biography, Hema Malini: The Dream Girl, written by Ram Kamal Mukherjee, Hema opened up about her marriage and her equation with Prakash.
She revealed that she never visited the “other” family and the reason behind it. “I didn’t want to disturb anyone. I am happy with whatever Dharamji did for me and my daughters. He played the role of a father, like any father would do. I guess I am happy with that,” he said. Although Hema met Prakash Kaur on several occasions during social gatherings, they didn’t see each other after Hema and Dharmendra’s marriage.
Hema further spoke about Prakash Kaur and said that she respects her a lot. “Today I am a working woman and I have been able to maintain my dignity because I have devoted my life to art and culture. I guess, if the situation was even slightly different from this, I wouldn’t be what I am today. Though I have never spoken about Prakash, I respect her a lot. Even my daughters respect Dharamji’s family. The world wants to know about my life in detail, but that is not for others to know. It’s no one’s business,” she said.
