Can you believe it has been two decades since Lagaan released? The film, featuring Aamir Khan, has completed 20 years of its release today. On this special occasion, the actor has revealed that the one thing about his hit film Lagaan that has stayed with him till now. During a special press conference held, Aamir revealed that there’s not one thing but almost everything about his 2001 film that has stayed with him. The perfectionist of Bollywood mentioned that it was difficult for him to pick one particular thing as there are many things etched in his memories.

After giving much thought to the question asked by a reporter, Aamir revealed that he had requested his ex-wife Reena Dutta to help him with producing the film. Walking down memory lane, Aamir said:

“I think the one thing that remains with me is the way Reena handled the film. My ex-wife Reena, who was a producer on the film, was somebody who had no understanding of cinema until then. Though she was married to me for number of years, she was not interested in films. So she never knew anything about filming. So, when I requested her one night that main produce kar raha hoon (film), I will need your help. So, she said I don’t know anything about filmmaking, what can I help you with? “

However, when Aamir told Reena that she can try and learn, she sportingly agreed to do so. “She was very sporting and she said I will learn. Usne I (will) learn kya bola, ke usne pura hi sikh liya,” recalled Aamir.

The actor further explained in detail how Reena learnt and produced the movie. He added:

“She went and met Subhash Ghai. She met Manmohan Shetty who runs a lab. She went to the lab and asked negative kya hota hai  dikhao.  Sound negative kya hota hai, processing kya hoti hai, printing kya hoti hai, lab ka process hota kya hai?  (What is sound negative, processing, printing and the lab process? So, she went and met producers, directors, technicians to understand what is filmmaking. And I had told her I will not tell you anything. I said you learn on your own (laughs). So, she learnt on her own, cracked it and produced the film as if she is veteran. That is something I will always remember in my life.”
