What Is Immigration And Foreigners Bill 2025? All About The Bill Introduced In Lok Sabha

Union Home Minister of State, Nityanand Rai introduced the Immigration and Foreigners Bill 2025 in the Lok Sabha . The bill was presented on behalf of Amit Shah with an aim to modernize and consolidate immigration laws in India. Addressing the Lok Sabha, Nityanand Rai said, “On behalf of Union Minister Amit Shah, I propose that the requirement of passport or travel documents be settled in respect of persons entering and exiting India, certain powers be granted to the Central Government and to regulate matters related to foreigners including requirement of visa and registration and permission be given to establish a bill dealing with matters connected or incidental to them.”

 

What Is Immigration And Foreigners Bill 2025?

This Bill gives the Government certain powers to provide for the requirement of passports or other travel documents in respect of persons entering into and exiting from India and for regulating matters related to foreigners, including the requirement of visa and registration and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

The bill was opposed by the opposition party who alleged that the bill violates “multiple fundamental rights” under the Constitution of India.

Railways (Amendment) Bill/Bills of Lading Bill: On Monday, Parliament passed the Railways (Amendment) Bill and the Lok Sabha passed the Bills of Lading Bill, 2024. The Railways (Amendment) Bill is aimed at streamlining and modernizing railway operations in India while the Bills of Lading Bill, 2024 aims to bring various provisions in line with modern legislations in order to facilitate simplification and ease of understanding while retaining substantive aspects of the existing law.

Meanwhile, the Opposition MPs walked out of the Rajya Sabha during the second part of the Budget session over the issues of delimitation and the New Education Policy (NEP). The second part of the budget session of Parliament began on Monday and will continue till April 4.
