What Did Mohammed Shami Sacrifice To Earn His Spot Back In Indian Team? The Truth Behind His Comeback

Mohammed Shami will be making his comeback in the international arena after an year. He was picked in India’s squad for five-match T20I series against England and he has also been named in the ODI squad for both England series and Champions Trophy 2025.

Mohammed Shami’s Injury Struggle

Mohammed Shami had a tough time after the ODI World Cup 2023 and remained out of action due to ankle surgery. Going further he had to deal with subsequent injuries during his rehabilitation. Before joining the national side, Shami had mentioned that he wanted to regain his fitness and play domestic cricket. He also featured in Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy, this eventually earned him a place in the national team.

Shib Shankar Paul Praises Shami

Bengal’s fast bowling coach Shib Shankar Paul heaped praises for Mohammed Shami and also revealed that Shami made numerous sacrifices during his recovery which included intense training sessions under the guidance of Team India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel.

“Fast bowlers take time to return after injury setbacks. Shami was hungry to play cricket and he wanted to bowl even after a match. He was dedicated,’ Paul said, as per Sportsboom.com.

What Sacrifices Did Shami Make For A Comeback?

“There are handful of bowlers who want to bowl for 30-45 minutes after a contest. He reached the ground at 6 am before the team on match days,” he added.

“He ate just one meal a day with no Biryani for two months.”

“Fast bowlers take time to return after injury setbacks. Shami was hungry to play cricket and he wanted to bowl even after a match. He was dedicated,’ Paul said, as per Sportsboom.com.

India will be playing T20I series against England which will be starting from January 22 and Mohammed Shami will be seen in action.
