As of December 2024, Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions hit an all-time high of 16.73 billion, an impressive 8% increase from the previous month. In a significant development aimed at simplifying financial management, the integration of credit cards with UPI is gaining popularity, allowing users to make credit card payments seamlessly through the platform. Many users are still unsure how to link their credit cards for UPI transactions, even though they’re eager to enjoy this hassle-free payment method. Start with this simple guide we’ve prepared for you.

The Process

This is a convenient, hassle-free option that allows users to make payments with their credit card through UPI-enabled apps, providing even greater ease for managing finances. Once your credit card is linked to your UPI account, making payments is simple. You can scan a QR code or select options such as ‘pay phone number’ or ‘pay contacts.’ The next step is to enter the amount. Then you can select your credit card as the payment method. Afterwards, enter your PIN, and complete the transactions.

How To Link Your Credit Card With UPI

  • Download a UPI-enabled app such as BHIM or PhonePe
  • Navigate to the ‘add payment method’ section
  • Select ‘credit card’ to link your card
  • Enter your card number, CVV, and expiration date- the system will send an OTP to your registered phone number for verification.
  • After you link your credit card, the app will prompt you to create a UPI ID. You can then use this ID to send and receive money through UPI. It lets you perform various transactions, such as paying bills and transferring funds, offering a convenient and flexible payment option.

Banks Offering Service

Currently, 22 banks offer the feature to link RuPay credit cards to UPI, including Punjab National Bank, Union Bank of India, Indian Bank, HDFC Bank, Canara Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Yes Bank, SBI Cards, ICICI Bank, IDFC Bank, and IndusInd Bank.

Popular UPI apps like BHIM, Paytm, and Google Pay support linking RuPay cards, making it widely accessible.

What Makes This Method Easier To Use?

Paying with a credit card through UPI has many benefits, like sending money instantly and making payments without physically touching a card or cash (contactless payments). It’s fast, easy, and efficient. It has to be noted that there are no additional fees charged for this mode of payment. User can make payments without having to manually enter their credit card details each time.

With the ease and security of UPI-linked credit card payments, managing your finances has never been more seamless.
