Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday joined the BJP’s ‘Janvishwas Yatra’ and hit out at Opposition-led previous governments in the state. His remarks come a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi appeared to endorse his leadership, contending that UP plus Yogi bahut hai upyogi (is of great utility). The state is slated to hold elections within a few months.
Speaking at the Jan Vishwas Yatra, CM Yogi Adityanath contended that the Opposition did not like it when the country’s borders were safe and secure and internal security maintained. “They like supporting the rioters, sparing the terrorists, encouraging cow smugglers, stealing money, and playing with people’s faith,” he alleged.
Adityanath said that no riots had taken place in Uttar Pradesh over the last 4.5 years. Referencing the Kosi Kalyan riots of 2012, he noted that previous leaders of the state could not make similar claims. As the CM put it, “many riots” had occurred in UP during previous governments. He also said that Hindus had been forced to leave the state before he took over the reins of administration in the state. “After 2017, we provided them security, employment and everything they demanded. Now they have come back to the state. Only the criminals and gangsters left the state after BJP came into power,” he said.
“135 crore people are family for us, but for Congress, SP, BSP, only their family matters to them,” the Chief Minister added. Speaking from Mathura, he added that the BJP-led government had worked towards infrastructure development, women security and the benefit of farmers.
With mere months left before the state Assembly elections, the BJP today kicked off a ‘Jan Vishwas Yatra’ across several districts of UP. The mega rally that began from Ghazipur at the Delhi-UP border, will be ending in Amethi on January 3. It is intended to “reaffirm faith in people” and boost the BJP’s chances in the upcoming polls. The event was initiated by top party leaders including CM Adityanath, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Smriti Irani and others.
