UP election 2022: Your business closed, they closed their eyes – Sonia Gandhi slams ‘Modi-Yogi’ government

Ahead of the next and the fourth phase of polls for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2022, Congress president Sonia Gandhi launched an all-out attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), targetting the Yogi Adityanath government and the Centre over farmers issues, employment and COVID-19.

Addressing an online event, Sonia Gandhi referred to BJP’s often-cited ‘double-engine’ government as ‘Modi-Yogi government’ and said that five years of Yogi Adityanath government did nothing but create ‘differences’ between the population of Uttar Pradesh.

“Farmers grow crops with a lot of hard work. You neither got paid nor received fertilizers, not even irrigation facilities,” Sonia Gandhi said. She also slammed the Yogi Adityanath government for not creating jobs for the youth and added that the government, instead, increased the prices of petrol, diesel, LPG, mustard oil.

Your business closed, they closed their eyes: Sonia

“During the lockdown, your business was closed. You suffered the pain of walking for miles. But Modi-Yogi govt acted irresponsibly and turned their faces away from you and closed their eyes, despite your pain. The government did not provide you with any relief,” Sonia Gandhi said.

The Congress is hoping to revive its presence in the state, where its presence was reduced to a meager seven seats in 2017 UP Assembly polls. Uttar Pradesh, which has been facing the ballot in seven phases for its 403 Assembly seats, has already witnessed three phases of polling so far. Voting for the remaining phases will take place on February 23, February 27, March 3 and 7. Results for Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2022 will be declared on March 10.
