The Election Commission of India on Sunday stopped Bollywood actor Sonu Sood from visiting the polling booths in Punjab’s Moga after SAD accused the star of clicking selfies with the voters.

The actor was stopped from visiting booths in Punjab’s Moga, where his sister Malvika Sood is contesting in the Punjab Assembly polls on a Congress ticket.

According to a few reports, there are allegations that Sonu was trying to allegedly “influence” the voters by clicking selfies with them. The ECI impounded  Sonu’s car and stopped the actor from going to various booths after a complaint was lodged by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Darjinder Singh alias Makhan Brar.

Adding to the same, District Magistrate Harish Nayyar also asked Moga SP to look into the matter and file a complaint in this regard. Moga District PRO Pradbhdeep Singh said, “Sonu Sood was trying to enter a polling booth. During this, his car was confiscated and he was sent home. Action will be taken against him if he steps out of his house.”

However, the actor has denied all the allegations and stated that he did not ask any of the voters to vote for his sister. He further added that he simply visited the booth set up outside the polling stations.

Sonu’s sister Malvika joined the Congress party in January. She was inducted into the political party in her hometown Moga amid the presence of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Congress State Unit President Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Polling for Punjab’s 117 Assembly seats began from 8 am on Sunday. Over 2.15 crore people will be casting their votes deciding the fate of 1304 candidates contesting Punjab’s Assembly seats
