Ahead of West Bengal bypolls, TMC leader Madan Mitra on Sunday advised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) not to waste money on the Bhabanipur by-election claiming that the contest will be totally one-sided.

“Don’t waste your (BJP’s) money by fielding your candidates in Bhabanipur Assembly by-elections. This election will be totally one-sided,” ANI quoted the TMC leader as saying.

The Election Commission had announced the bypoll for the Bhabanipur constituency – Mamata Banerjee’s old bastion from where she will contest the Assembly by-election in a bid to remain the cheif minister.

The EC had also informed that polls will also be held in Samserganj and Jangipur of West Bengal and Pipli (Odisha) on the same date. The counting of votes will be taken up on October 3.

Amid the ongoing political tensions between BJP and Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, the announcement by the Election Commission of India has again compelled both the main parties to initiate debate for the by-polls.

Bhabanipur bypoll crucial form CM Mamata

In recently concluded Assembly elections in West  Bengal, probably it happended for the first time that a chief minister lost her seat, but the party registered a bigger victory than achieved in the previous assembly election.

Banerjee managed to defeat BJP’s Modi-Shah juggernaut in West Bengal with the win of 213 out of 292 seats by the TMC. Howevere, she herself lost the seat from Nandigram constituency to BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari.

In India’s constitutional scheme, anybody can be appointed as the chief minister or a minister or even prime minister without being a legislator. But such a person should get elected by the people within six months of appointment.
