TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee mocks BJP, says ‘party heavyweights nowhere to be seen when calamities strike Bengal’

Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee took a dig at the BJP saying party heavyweights are nowhere to be seen when calamities strike West Bengal.

Banerjee gave this statement while on a visit to Murshidabad to meet the family of the victim of a lightning strike.

The Diamond Harbour MP was referring to the visit of Home Minister Amit Shah and other party leaders to Bengal during assembly polls.

“State government is with the family of deceased. Those (BJP) who had eaten lunch on banana leaves, clicked pictures during polls, are nowhere to be seen now,” he added.

‘Outsiders come and go but West Bengal only wants its daughter at the helm’

He further said that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced financial help for the family of the deceased, the TMC government had already extended monetary assistance to the next of kin of the deceased.

At least 27 people were killed in lightning strikes in three districts of south Bengal on Monday.

Banerjee also refuted BJP’s claim that he decided to meet the family members of the deceased in Murshidabad and Hooghly only after the PM offered his condolences and declared financial help.

Raking up the insider-outsider debate once again, TMC’s all India general secretary said that outsiders come and go but Bengal only wants its daughter at the helm.

Mamata Banerjee backs farmers, says wants to remove Narendra Modi

Earlier today, Mamata Banerjee reiterated her support to farmers’ unions and asked the Centre why it is difficult to support theM.

She further said that she aims to “remove the Narendra Modi government from power”.

There should be a platform where states could converse on policy issues, said the TMC chief adding that “bulldozing states is not good for the federal structure.”

This statement from Mamata Banerjee comes days after the TMC announced that it would be expanding its footprints outside West Bengal
