West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee  urged party workers to “march ahead” to garner a win in the upcoming Goa Assembly elections. The Trinamool Congress, she emphasised, stood for “Temple-Mosque-Church'”. The party which has recently made inroads into Goa’s political landscape insisted that the TMC was here to “unite the votes” rather than split them.

“We fight the BJP. Is there a chance of winning? Do you have the confidence that we can win? If you are confident, then don’t take a step back. March ahead,” the TMC supremo urged party workers during an address in Panaji.

Banerjee who is on a two-day visit to Goa said that the TMC alliance was “BJP’s alternative”. Exuding confidence that her party would win, the Chief Minister said that it was up to others to decide whether they would support the TMC or not. “We’ve already made a decision. We will fight and die but we won’t step back,” she added.

Her remarks came mere hours after Goa’s lone Nationalist Congress Party MLA Churchill Alemao said that he had merged the legislative unit of the party will the TMC. He had also submitted a copy of the merger to the Speaker of the state legislative Assembly asking to be recognised henceforth as a TMC MLA in the Goa Assembly.

The TMC has already forged an alliance with state’s oldest regional outfit, the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) for the upcoming elections. “BJP ke khilaf me khela hobe, khel jatlo, BJP hatao,” the TMC chief said.

Elections for the 40-member Goa Assembly will be held early next year.
