India is celebrating its 75th Independence Day on Sunday (August 15). The country was granted independence on this day back in 1947 after a hard-fought and gruelling battle against the British Raj in order to free the country once again. Since then, this day remains the most important day for the countrymen in the calendar year.
As the countrymen have dived into celebrations and are paying rich tributes to the freedom fighters, who gave their blood and sweat for the country’s future, sportspersons have also joined in and led the charge in wishing one another a Happy Independence Day.
In this regard, Sachin Tendulkar led the wishes whereas the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Anil Kumble, and many other famous Indian athletes have wished the nation on Twitter.
Here are some of the responses –
Tendulkar wrote, “I have always worn India flag on my helmet with pride and it always reminded me why I stepped on the field. Wish a very Happy 75th #IndependenceDay to all the Indians across the globe. Jai Hind!”
Modi also shared few words for the countrymen after the national flag hoisting ceremony at The Red Fort, New Delhi on Sunday morning (August 15). During his I-Day speech addressed to the common people, Modi gave a special mention to the Indian Olympians — who came as special guests — who made the country proud in the recently-concluded Tokyo Games. He told, “Aaj bhi desh ke kuch ilaako mein baadh hain, kuch piddha daayak khabre aate rehti hain…Aise samay central or state govt. ho, sab inke saath kadhi hui hai. Aaj uss beech mein, Bharat ki yuva piddi jinhone Bharat ka naam roshan kiya hai woh humare beech mein hain. Main aaj apne desh vaasiyon ko kehta hu ki humare khiladiyon ke saaman mein aaye aur taaliyon se unka samaan karre…..(We have with us our Olympic participants, athletes who have made India proud. I want the entire country to salute them).”
