Retirement For Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma? Has BCCI Set A Deadline Before Champions Trophy 2025?

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is going to start from February 19. Indian cricket fans want to see the trophy in the hands of captain Rohit Sharma once again. However, this Champions Trophy may prove to be the last tournament of two Indian legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

According to reports, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli may announce their retirement after the Champions Trophy 2025. Rohit and Virat are in the news for their recent form. After the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, their bat remained silent in the Ranji Trophy, after which speculations about their retirement have intensified.

Will Rohit and Virat retire after the Champions Trophy?

The two most experienced players of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, have been facing criticism for their poor form for the past year. After a poor performance on the Australia tour, they were expected to perform better in the Ranji Trophy, but their performance here too was disappointing. Virat was out after scoring just 9 runs, while Rohit could score only 31 runs in two innings.

Rohit and Virat, who have retired from T20 cricket, can announce their retirement from all formats of cricket. According to sources, the 2025 Champions Trophy may be the last tournament for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the 50-over format. Discussion about their retirement has already started on social media.

Retirement due to these reasons

After the Champions Trophy, India has to play the biggest ODI tournament in 2027. There is a lot of time for the tournament to start, and considering this, the selectors will definitely be looking for new players to replace Rohit and Virat. Rohit Sharma will be 40 years old in 2027, while Virat Kohli will be 39. In such a situation, BCCI wants to include young players in the team.

The last ODI was played against Sri Lanka

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have played only three ODIs for India so far after the 2023 ODI World Cup. Last year, they took part in the three-match ODI series on the Sri Lanka tour. In this series, Rohit batted brilliantly and scored 157 runs, which was the highest by any player. At the same time, Kohli’s performance was disappointing and only 58 runs came from his bat.
