In his will, Ratan Tata bequeathed over ₹3 crore to the staff of his home and office. As reported by the Times of India, Ratan Tata, who passed away in October 2024, instructed the executors of his will to distribute ₹15 lakh of his estate proportionately to domestic staff members who have worked with him for over seven years.

His will specifies that ₹1 lakh should be distributed to part-time workers and car cleaners. Tata dedicated the majority of his ₹3,800 crore estate to the Ratan Tata Endowment Foundation and the Ratan Tata Endowment Trust, although these staff members were mentioned specifically in his will.

According to the Times of India, Ratan Tata bequeathed more than ₹1 crore to his long-time cook, Rajan Shaw, including a loan waiver of ₹51 lakh. His butler, Subbaiah Konar, will receive ₹66 lakh, including a waived loan of ₹36 lakh, while his secretary, Delnaz Gilder, was left ₹10 lakh.

Ratan Tata also directed that his clothing be donated to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) so it could be distributed to the needy. He wore brands including Brooks Brother shirts, Hermes ties, Polo, Daks, and Brioni suits.

He also forgave a loan of ₹1 crore taken by his executive assistant, Shantanu Naidu, for his MBA at Cornell University. He also forgave other loans, including one to his neighbor and ₹18 lakh to his driver, Raju Leon.

“I direct my executors that they shall not take any steps to recover the loans (from Shaw, Konar, and Raju Leon) and the same shall not be considered as owing to my estate. I direct that the amount of the loan shall be considered a request from me to the concerned servants/driver,” Tata said in his will, dated February 23, 2022.

As an animal lover, Ratan Tata included a special reference to his own pet dog Tito, the German Shepherd, in his will. He provided ₹12 lakh to be used at a rate of ₹30,000 per quarter. Tito will live with his cook for the rest of his life, Rajan Shaw.
