Alia Bhatt-starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi has been making waves ever since the trailer was unveiled. The much-awaited film, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, arrived in the cinema halls on Friday (February 25). Alia, who has played the titular character in the biographical crime drama, has received critical acclaim from the audience for her power-packed performance.
The Gully Boy star, known for her acting prowess, has once again managed to impress the critics in Gangubai Kathiawadi. Several tinsel town celebs including Vicky Kaushal, Janhvi Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh have lauded Alia for her impeccable performance in the film.
Ranbir Kapoor’s mother and veteran actress Neetu Singh also praised the Kalank actress on social media. She shared a post on her Instagram story, appreciating Alia for delivering playing the role with her perfection.
“Watch how @aliabhatt hits the ball out of the park,” Neetu wrote. Alia responded to her post by writing, “Love you.” She added a white heart emoji while sharing the post on Insta story.
Ranbir Kapoor’s sister Riddhima Kapoor Sahni had earlier penned a note for Alia that read, “When two living legends come together and create magic #sanjayleelabhansali #aliabhatt what a fantastic movie! Brilliant performance! @aliabhatt you nailed it.”
The makers of Gangubai Kathiawadi hosted a special screening for the celebs on Wednesday (February 23). The likes of Deepika Padukone, Janhvi Kapoor, Malaika Arora, Arjun Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter attended the screening to extend support to Alia and team.
Gangubai Kathiawadi, which also starred Vijay Raaz, Shantanu Maheshwari, Seema Pahwa, is based on a chapter in S. Hussain Zaidi’s Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Ajay Devgn made a special appearance in the highly anticipated flick, which premiered at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival.
The film remained in controversy ahead of its release as Gangubai’s adopted son filed a plea seeking an injunction against the makers from releasing Gangubai Kathiawadi in the theatres. On Thursday (February 24), the Supreme Court junked the plea.
