Deep Sidhu, a Punjabi actor who appeared in a number of films, died in a road accident in Haryana on Tuesday, February 15, according to SHO Kharkhoda. According to Haryana Police, Deep Sidhu died in a road accident after ramming his car into a stopped truck at Pipli toll on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway around 9 pm. The car had two occupants. While he was critically injured and died on his way to the hospital, his female friend is currently in stable condition and the family of the two have been contacted.

The late actor’s body has been taken to the Sonepat Civil Hospital for an autopsy which will be conducted tomorrow.

In December 2020, a video of Sidhu speaking in English went viral, catapulting him into the spotlight. Deep Sidhu was spotted claiming to be a farmer and predicting that the farmers’ demonstrations would be a watershed point in the geopolitics of not only India, but also South Asia. These farmer protests, according to Sidhu, were nothing more than “Inquilab” (revolution). Sidhu further warned the authorities, claiming that they were oblivious to the gravity of the situation and that “revolution” (protests) would define the country’s and South Asia’s future geopolitics.

Last year, Sidhu made headlines when he took responsibility for hoisting the Nishan Sahib at the Red Fort on Republic Day 2021, as part of a tractor rally organised by farmers opposing the Centre’s agricultural rules.

According to Delhi Police, they had electronic evidence that Sidhu caused the incident by entering the Red Fort with supporters carrying lathis and flags. He had been imprisoned for more than two months before being freed on bail on April 17.

Sidhu’s family, originally from Muktsar’s Udekaran village, had left the region in the 1980s. His father was a lawyer who worked in Gidderbaha. He started acting at the age of 31 and is best known for the film Jora 10 Numbaria (2017). When Sunny Deol ran for Parliament from Gurdaspur, Deep became well-known in political circles, owing to the fact that he was  Sunny Deol’s political secretary. However, he had a strained relationship with the Deol family.
