Public Holidays In July 2025: Is NSE, BSE Open Or Closed On These Dates? Full State And National List

Planning your trades, investments, or a quick mid-month getaway? One key question here is the stock market close today? With July 2025 featuring several state-wise public holidays, traders, investors, and professionals must check how these dates impact operations at the NSE (National Stock Exchange) and BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange). Here’s a quick update for you on this matter.

July features several state-specific holidays, including Bonalu in Telangana, Martyrs’ Day in Jammu & Kashmir, and Kharchi Puja in Tripura. These states will observe public holidays on their respective dates. Muharram will be observed on either July 6 or 7, and it will be a gazetted holiday in many parts of the country, potentially affecting banking operations, especially in states where it is officially recognised.

Muharam On July 7

Muharram is a holy month in Islam and is considered a sacred observance. It is a public holiday in many parts of India. In 2025, Muharram is expected to be on Monday, July 7. However, the exact date depends on when the moon is seen, as that marks the start of the Islamic New Year. If the moon isn’t visible on July 6, the holiday may be observed on July 8 instead.

On the day Muharram is observed, schools, banks, government offices, post offices, and many private offices stay closed in most states. People are advised to check local news or government notices the night before, because the holiday is officially confirmed only after the moon is seen.

Muharram – NSE And BSE

Both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain closed for trading on Muharram. The suspension will affect all segments, including equity, equity derivatives, SLB (Securities Lending and Borrowing), currency derivatives, and interest rate derivatives. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain shut during the morning session on the day of Muharram. However, trading will resume in the evening session from 5:00 PM to 11:30/11:55 PM.

Similarly, the second and fourth Saturdays on July 12 and 26 will be non-working days for banks, but markets and schools may function normally, depending on state-specific decisions. As per the standard trading calendar for the NSE and BSE, the markets remain closed every Saturday and Sunday. In July 2025, these holidays fall on the following dates:

Saturdays: July 5, July 12, July 19 and July 26

Sundays: July 6, July 13, July 20 and July 27

According to this, the total number of non-trading days nationally in July will be eight, which are regular weekend closures. No additional public or festival-related trading holidays have been declared for the month.

Will MCX Trading Be Open?

Like NSE and BSE, on the day of Muharram, the Multi Commodity Exchange Of India (MCX) will remain closed during the morning trading session as per usual holiday protocol. However, trading will start again in the evening, from 5:00 PM to 11:30 or 11:55 PM. Traders should keep this in mind, as only the evening session will be available for commodity trading on that day.

Public Holidays

Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl Day (MHIP Day) will also be celebrated on July 6, but only in Mizoram.

Martyrs’ Day will be observed in Jammu & Kashmir on Sunday, July 13

Bhanu Jayanti, primarily celebrated in Sikkim, also falls on Sunday, July 13

Harela, a regional festival in Uttarakhand, will be marked on Wednesday, July 16

Kharchi Puja, an important festival in Tripura, will take place on Thursday, July 3

Ker Puja, another traditional event in Tripura, is scheduled for Saturday, July 19

Bonalu, a popular celebration in Telangana, will be observed on Monday, July 21

Haryali Teej, celebrated in Chhattisgarh, falls on Sunday, July 27

Shaheed Udham Singh’s Martyrdom Day will be observed in Haryana and Punjab on Thursday, July 31
