Pakistan Faces Setback At UNSC As Bid To Internationalise Kashmir Issue Fails, Members Condemn Pahalgam Terror Attack

Pakistan’s representative in the United Nations (UN), Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, reiterated Pakistan’s old statements in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Pakistan had again tried to misuse the UNSC platform to spread lies against India. Kashmir issue was brought to the centre stage to weaken the story of the Pahalgam terror attack. Pakistan accused India of military preparations and provocative statements, and termed suspension of the Indus Water Treaty as aggression.

Pakistan Faces Setback At UNSC

Moreover, Pakistan faced a huge embarrassment as the UNSC meeting called on its request ended without any result. No statement came from the United Nations which proved that Pakistan’s attempt to take the Kashmir issue to the international level amid the ongoing tension has failed.

Apart from this, the United Nations Security Council members raised tough questions for Pakistan at its informal closed door session on Monday, sources in New York told ANI. It is being told that members refused to accept the “false flag” narrative planted by the Pakistani side. They further asked whether the Lashkar-e-Taiba, a proscribed terror organisation with deep ties to Pakistan, was likely to be involved in the terror attack.

Notably, the 15-nation Security Council held deliberations on Monday afternoon amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. Sources added that there was broad condemnation of the terrorist attack and recognition of the need for accountability.
Some members also expressed concern that missile tests and nuclear rhetoric by Pakistan were escalatory factors. Adding to all these, many members specifically brought up targeting of tourists on the basis of their religious faith in Pahalgam.

The updates coming out from United Nations Security Council (UNSC) highlight that Pakistan’s efforts to internationalise the situation has also failed. They have been advised to sort out the issues bilaterally with India.

Antonio Guterres Calls For ‘Maximum Restraint’

Meanwhile, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Monday called for “maximum restraint.” He stated that “military solution is no solution.” Guterres extended UN’s complete support for de-escalation diplomacy and renewed commitment to peace. He further said that the tensions between India and Pakistan have reached to a “boiling” point.

“Tension between India and Pakistan are at their highest in years. It pains me to see the relation reaching a boiling point. I understand the raw feeling following the awful terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22. I once again strongly condemn the attack and extends my condolences to the families of the victim. Targeting civilians is unacceptable and those responsible must be brought to justice,” Guetters added.
