Pakistan Ditches Russia, Asks Intermediary To Purchase Arms From The United States; Strategic Move Follows Due To..

Taking it as an opportunity to improve ties with the United States, Pakistan has asked its intermediary to purchase weapons and ammunition for the United States and its allies rather than from Russia. The move is being seen as a fresh strategy of Pakistan to come close to the United States after its rival India shares a healthy relationship with the United States.

As per a report published in The Sunday Guardian, Pakistan’s last arm deal with the United States had taken place in 2020. Pakistan had received gas turbines in 2023 to which the nation had ordered in 2020.

The Tabani Group played a key intermediary role in arms purchase for Pakistan. It had procured arms from Russia for the country, but now it is aligning itself with the companies,  including the United States and its allies which are providing arms to Ukraine amid ongoing war with Russia.

The report suggested that Pakistan hinted to its intermediary to engage the United States for the purchase of arms. The step will aim to reduce Pakistan’s dependency on Russia in arm deals. The Tabani Group will work to procure arms for the nation.

Experts say arms purchased from The United States will benefit Pakistan as it could put pressure on India after the latter met the acting foreign minister of Taliban in Dubai. Pakistan’s relationship with the Taliban remains strained .
