Noida International Airport is considered a game changer for air travel in Northern India. The greenfield airport is one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects undertaken by the Yogi government in the region. Anything related to Jewar Airport tends to make headlines every time. The latest big news from Jewar Airport is the awarding of the massive oil supply contract to Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL). The decision to prefer a PSU over major private players has sparked discussions.

Noida International Airport(NIA) has entered into a 30-year agreement with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) to provide fuel services for the Jewar Airport. A 30-Year agreement was inked between the NIA and IOCL to operate fuel stations at three major locations within the airport.

“This partnership with IndianOil is a major step towards operational readiness. It will ensure efficient fuel services at the airport for years to come,” said Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of Noida International Airport. The airport is expected to be inaugurated in the early months of the financial year 2025-26.

While IOCL has secure the contract for the oil supply, other companies will provide additional energy solutions. a Tata Group company, will supply wind and solar energy, while Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) will handle the provision of air turbine fuel (ATF).

The collaboration seeks to deliver seamless, high-quality fueling services to support the airport’s operational readiness. CEO said that the partnership’s focus is to ensure uninterrupted services, enhancing efficiency and reliability in airport operations.

The new airport is set to begin its operations in April 2025, aimed at supporting customer needs and the region’s increasing infrastructure demands. The design of the airport is centered on sustainability, with a commitment to achieving net-zero emissions. This initiative is a response to the dual needs of expanding regional infrastructure and addressing environmental concerns. NIA officials are taking necessary steps to develop adequate infrastructure before operations are started.

The project will feature a single runway and terminal, and is progressing swiftly towards its operational deadline. In December 2024, the airport successfully conducted a validation flight trial, an important step in assessing its readiness for commercial flights. The construction of the terminal building is also advancing rapidly. It is touted to be the India’s largest Airport, once all its phases are complete. It is designed to achieve net-zero emissions which will provide a boost to Uttar Pradesh’s economy in terms of tourism and real estate.
