After making his directorial debut in 2011 with Chillar Party, Nitesh Tiwari went on to direct Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Bhoothnath Returns. In 2016, the filmmaker collaborated with Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan for Dangal, which went on to become a massive hit. From the amazing storyline to Aamir’s drastic transformation, there were many things about this movie that impressed one and all.
Recently, in an interview with Times Now Digital, we asked Nitesh if he would want to collaborate with Aamir if given a chance. Replying to the same, he said, “If you give me something to do with him today, I would jump and do it, that’s how much I like him. I sincerely hope that in the future, either I would have something which would excite him or he would have something that would excite me and we’ll be working together. I can only hope for it to happen sooner than later.”
Further, we asked Nitesh about the time gap between his projects and if it has been a conscious choice for him. To this, the filmmaker said, “No, I don’t make a conscious choice to keep my films away so much. It’s just, that I am picky and choosey about the stories I want to tell that is something which ends up taking so much time. And secondly, I take a lot of time to write my stuff and thirdly, I take a lot of time to prepare. I think that is the reason why my films take so much time to come. There’s no other reason for that. It’s not a conscious choice, I think it’s the process that makes it like that.”
Nitesh’s debut film, Chillar Party, won a National Film Award in the Best Children’s Film category. We went on to ask the filmmaker if, at the beginning of his career, he felt that people are not ready to team up with a new filmmaker.
Replying to the same, he said, “No, I never got that feeling ever. I, in fact, always felt very welcomed and just to give you an example, my second film itself I did with Amitabh Bachchan. So, I always felt very welcomed. Third film I did with Aamir sir, I mean, these are legends and they only look at the quality which a director is bringing on to the table rather than anything else and that is paramount to them. So, I have always felt extremely welcomed and at no point in time, I felt that because I was new to the industry, I was being treated differently. The way the industry has embraced me, I kind of feel blessed and very lucky.”
Nitesh has now teamed up with his wife and filmmaker Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari for Break Point. The web show traces the on and off-court partnership between the Indian tennis legends, Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi. The docu-drama will release on October 1 on Zee 5
