Bollywood stars have finally started opening up about mental health issues and stars like Deepika Padukone, Ileana D’Cruz and others have been challenging the stigma around it. However, every time a celebrity opens up about their struggle, their comments make headlines and stay in the news for days. Something similar happened when actress Mrunal Thakur spoke about having suicidal thoughts during her college days.
Mrunal recently revealed that when she was young, she used to travel by local train. Somedays, she even thought of jumping off the train, the Toofan actress shared during an interaction with Ranveer Allahbadia. Earlier today, excerpts from the interview went viral with sensational headlines. To clear the air, the Jersey actress has issued a statement on social media.
On Friday, she took to her Twitter handle to share a note that read, “A recent interview I did – in which I spoke candidly about my childhood, and about my journey as an actor so far – appears to have been extracted out of context to highlight one sensitive topic that has been completely misunderstood and sensationalized by several media outlets.”
“While I stand by the interview that I did, incidents like these make public figures wary of speaking honestly to the media. I urge you to watch the interview in full, and I request my friends in the media not to quote me out of context or cull out portions that might make for sensational headlines,” she added.
For those unversed, Mrunal was quoted as saying, “I used to travel by local trains. I used to stand at the door and sometimes, I would feel like jumping off.”
In the same interview, she added, “I thought I would be married off at 23 and have kids, and that is exactly what I did not want. I wanted to do something different and I would give auditions back then. There were many points where I felt like I was good for nothing.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, she will be seen in Shahid Kapoor’s much-awaited sports film Jersey
