The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued an important update regarding Mohammed Shami’s fitness and his availability for the final two Tests of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scheduled to take place in Melbourne and Sydney. Although Shami has recovered from a heel injury, he will not be available for selection due to slight swelling in his left knee. Now his participation in Vijay Hazare Trophy also remains doubtful.
Swelling In Mohammed Shami’s Knee
Mohammed Shami was last seen in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and now again he has faced a fresh setback. His knee is currently swelled due to bowling workload.
“His left knee has exhibited minor swelling due to increased joint loading from his bowling workload. The swelling is on the expected lines, owing to the increased bowling after a prolonged period. Based on the current medical assessment, the BCCI Medical Team has determined that his knee requires more time for controlled exposure to bowling loads. Consequently, he has not been deemed fit for consideration for the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” according to the BCCI statement.
Vijay Hazare Participation Also In Doubt
“Shami will continue to undergo targeted strength and conditioning work under the guidance of the medical staff at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence and build his bowling loads needed to meet the demands of the longest format of the game. His participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy will depend on the progress of his knee,” said BCCI
Mohammed Shami has been struggling with constant injury setbacks. He has been working really hard to regain his fitness and play domestic cricket first but he is facing a challenging time.
Mohammed Shami Struggles With Injury Setbacks
Mohammed Shami has been struggling with injuries since ODI World Cup 2023, he went through an ankle surgery after that. Since then he has been recovering in NCA and trying to regain back his full-fitness. He also mentioned that he wants to play domestic cricket before joining back Indian team. In Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Shami was in incredible form and picked 16 wickets overall.
