Lata Mangeshkar cremated with full state honours; PM Modi, Shah Rukh Khan attend legendary singer’s funeral

The entire nation is mourning the demise of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, who breathed her last today at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. She was 92 and was diagnosed with pneumonia and COVID-19.

Along with the countrymen, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also shaken by the death of the veteran singer. PM Modi arrived in Mumbai to pay his last respects. Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan was also spotted at the Shivaji Park to attend the funeral.

The last rites of the legendary singer were conducted at Shivaji Park today. PM Modi and SRK were also a part of the honorary tribute as they arrived to pay their last respects to the ‘Nightingale of India’. The central government announced two days of state mourning, today and tomorrow. During the state mourning, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across India.

The mortal remains of the legendary singer were draped in tricolour as they were taken to Shivaji Park for the last rites. Fans gathered around the mortal remains of the singer and participated in the procession. Citizens joined in thousands to catch one last glimpse of the singer before the last rites. The procession truck was decorated with white flowers with a huge portrait of Mangeshkar on the front.

On Saturday, Lata Mangeshkar’s health deteriorated and she was critical. As per Dr Samdani, she was undergoing aggressive therapy. Earlier today, many Bollywood celebrities were seen arriving at singer Lata Mangeshkar’s house Prabhukunj in Mumbai to pay their last respects. Several Indian cricketers also paid emotional tributes to the singer by wearing black armbands to mourn the demise of Lata Mangeshkar.

Lata Mangeshkar was popularly known as the ‘Nightingale of India’. She was the recipient of the country’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna. In her career of six long decades, she bagged several prestigious awards including three National Awards, 15 Bengal Film Journalist’s Association Awards, four Filmfare Best Playback Singer Awards, and more.

Mangeshkar had given more than 30,000 songs with her melodious voice in different Indian languages. A few of her popular tracks include Tere Bina Zindagi Se, Lag Jaa Gale, Dekha Ek Khwab, Naina Barse Rim Jhim and more.
