Lando Norris Reacts After Defeating Max Verstappen In Australian GP, Says ‘A Tough One Because…’

Lando Norris kick-started the 2025 Formula One campaign with a gritty win in the Australian Grand Prix, but confessed it was an anxiety-inducing experience. The rain-soaked race on March 16 witnessed the McLaren driver producing a top-notch display, repelling a late charge by Max Verstappen to claim the first place on the podium.

Norris Battles Pressure To Secure Victory

Beginning from pole position, Norris demonstrated amazing calmness during difficult conditions. When Verstappen was on his shoulders in the final stages, the British driver maintained his concentration, making sure he did not repeat those mistakes committed at Silverstone and Canada last year when McLaren fared poorly in similar situations.

Apart from a small wide moment on Lap 44, Norris remained calm and gave credit to McLaren’s engineering team for giving him an excellent car to start the season.

A ‘Tough Race’ For Lando Norris

“Tough race! Especially with Max behind me. I was pushing, especially the last two laps. A little bit stressful, I won’t like. But an amazing way to start the year. A tough one because we went off, went through the gravel, got damage, just tricky conditions but these ones are enjoyable, fun and unpredictable but this time we got it right and ended up on top.”

“We got it wrong a lot last year, so we learned from our mistakes. We lost out at Silverstone and Canada through a race like this. It’s only the first round of 24, so dealing with the pressure, dealing with Max, dealing with Oscar, I was pushing the whole way through,” said Norris.

Norris Gives Credit To McLaren

“A tough one, so to not make overly too many mistakes or a mistake that cost me anything, I can take a bit of credit for that. A tough but a challenging race. But for McLaren I need to give them a big thanks because they have given me an amazing car,” said Norris.

Early Championship Lead For Norris

After his win in Melbourne, Norris is now the leader of the 2025 Drivers’ Standings as he heads to the Chinese Grand Prix on March 23. With most predicting him to be a strong title contender this year, the McLaren sensation has set the stage for an electrifying season to come.
