Kesari Chapter 2 is a historical courtroom drama depicting the legal aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh tragedy and it is all set to hit theaters on April 18. Directed by newcomer Karan Singh Tyagi, the film stars Akshay Kumar as C. Sankaran Nair, alongside R. Madhavan portraying antagonist Neville McKinley and Ananya Panday as Dilreet Kaur.

Just before its release, the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) has issued an ‘A’ certificate for the film, likely due to its graphic portrayal of the historical massacre. The certificate was granted to the film on April 9.

At the trailer launch in Delhi, Karan Johar, the film’s producer, said the film was made with a lot of emotion and anger. He said “In memory of those lives that were lost; in memory of those wounds that are still raw; in memory of the sadness that engulfs Jallianwala Bagh, even today. This film is not a homage. It’s not an honour. It is yet a film that asks the British Empire for an apology through the brave narrative of Sankaran Nair. This film is about the battle fought by Sankaran Nair versus the Crown. Kesari: Chapter 2 is neither Khushi nor Gham but Gussa,” he said.

The storyline focuses on the story of Sankaran who takes a stand against British rule.
