Senior Congress leader Kipal Sibal called for the revival of the part and early organisational polls. “The Congress needs to show it is active. India needs a resurgent Congress. Void of political alternative in India. Party need to balance experience, youth,” the leader said today.
Sibal went on to say that the country needs a strong Opposition. He stressed the need for reforms at the central level.
Sibal is, of course, not the first Congress leader to call for early organisational polls. Senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily suggested the Congress is in the dire need of surgery in order to ensure that it can once again resurrect.
This comes at a time another part veteran Jitin Prasada, once called the right hand of Rahul Gandhi, left the party to join the BJP on Thursday, giving rise to speculations about whether it was the right time for the party to promote its young leaders.
The political decline of the Congress has been steady and I don’t see any hope, Prasada, two-time Congress MP, said after his exit. He said that he has seen a growing disconnect between people and the grand old party in Uttar Pradesh.
Inter-party feuds have also been seen in Punjab and Rajasthan – two big states ruled by the Congress. While in Punjab, a three-member panel has been formed to resolve the differences between Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu, in Rajasthan, Sachin Pilot and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s camps are at loggerheads again.
Earlier, Jyotiraditya Scindia had deserted the Congress in Madhya Pradesh for the BJP and Himanta Biswa Sarma who left the party is now the chief minister of Assam .
