John Wick Chapter 4 Movie Review: Keanu Reeves’ actioner is bigger, better and more intimate

Chapter 4 is everything that you imagined it to be, and then some more. The new installment in the film franchise picks up right where it left and the battle between the High Table and Wick only gets bigger and grander. At 171 minutes, the movie has every bit of drama, action, and of course, the amazing Keanu Reeves with an equally amazing primary and supporting cast.
We watched the movie at the screening in yesterday, and it turned out to be quite the experience, I’d say! Here’s my review of the Keanu Reeves movie.

A mind-blowing 30 minute action sequence

A couple of minutes into the film, you have a full-blown action sequence with fights, people getting their faces shot, and bones broke, and a lot more. And half way through the film, all you end up talking about is how it was 30 minutes on the clock, but that’s not just it, because the second half has another. And oh yes, it does get better. (why, you ask, watch the film to know!)
Through those chase sequences are blood-spattered shootouts, masterful martial arts combat, and next-level stunt, ensuring that the movie is an action-packed film. Of course there are bits that don’t seem to practical but we know how Wick is as ‘unkillable’ as one can be, right?
Director Chad Stahelski who reunites with Keanu Reeves has done a fantastic job at this film, and done total justice to the franchise he has built here. While he is looking at getting a break from the Wick films, we know we are gearing up for something grand being built.

Donnie Yen makes you love him and hate him

Like an absolute star, you love him but you also don’t, and his character Caine, only gets better. The entire arc of his character and then the post credit scene (no spoiler here), is everything and every reason why he shines throughout the movie. Donnie and Hiroyuki Sanada’s Shmiazu have some amazing action sequences and of course, Donnie is worth a single man show every time he picks a fight.

The performances

John Wick: Chapter 4 will feature old and new cast members. We’ve already spoken about how amazing Donnie Yen is as Caine. Keanue Reeves in the titular role, meanwhile, fits just right, EVERY SINGLE TIME. He knows the character like the back of his hand and there’s no denying it. The action, check. The drama, check. And the YEAH? Check. (if you know, you know!)Bill Skarsgård as Marquis is yet another great performer and he manages to make us hate him well. Also, standing up against Keanu? He doesn’t have a chance! But his performance sure does. Rina Sawayama as Akira is another performance we loved and we would definitely have liked to see some more of her. Hiroyuki Sanada as Shimazu does well, so do Shamier Anderson, Lance Reddick, Ian McShane and Scott Adkins.

Phenomenal direction and stunning screenplay

For a movie to keep you equally engaged for 170 minutes is no joke, but Kean and team do it successfully and we love it. The movie was worth all this wait, and the entire team has proven it just about right. If you haven’t seen the other movies, you would probably still connect equally well with a few references, but if you have, you are only more engrossed throughout.

John Wick: Chapter 4 Review: Verdict

The movie is not without flaws, and there will be moments you might not connect to and bits that you find cliche (including Marquis’ storyline and some chase highlights), but there’s no taking away from how amazing the movie really is after all. You are in for a fun power packed action entertainer with this installment of the movie.
