IPL 2022, CSK vs LSG: MS Dhoni set to join batting icons Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma in exclusive club

Legendary cricketer MS Dhoni made the most of his experience in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 curtain-raiser between defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. Dhoni scripted history in the IPL 2022 opener by scoring a sensational half-century for the Ravindra Jadeja-led side against two-time winners Kolkata. On Thursday, Dhoni can rewrite history again when CSK lock horns with KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
One of the most decorated players in the history of the game, Dhoni only needs to score 15 more runs to join Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan on an elite list. Dhoni is on the verge of completing 7,000 runs in the shortest format of the game. Indian batters Kohli, Rohit, Dhawan and Robin Uthappa have scored 7000-plus runs in the shortest format of the game. The 2007 World Cup winner has scored 6,985 runs in his illustrious T20 career.
Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Kohli has amassed 10,326 runs in T20 cricket while Mumbai Indian skipper Rohit has accumulated 9,936 runs in the same format. Punjab Kings (PBKS) opener Dhawan has 8,818 runs under his belt in T20 cricket. Dhoni’s CSK teammate Uthappa has smashed 7,070 runs in the shortest format. Dhoni had guided CSK to IPL glory in the previous edition of the world’s richest T20 league. The CSK legend had stepped down as Chennai’s captain ahead of the new season. Dhoni had picked veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as his successor at CSK.
Dhoni and Jadeja had played crucial roles in helping CSK set up a 131-run total for the defending champions in the low-scoring IPL 2022 opener against KKR at Mumbai. Dhoni had become the oldest batter to score a half-century in the IPL during the same contest. Ending his three-year drought, Dhoni had scored a quick-fire 50 off 38 balls against KKR. However, Dhoni’s heroics failed to rescue CSK as KKR defeated the Yellow Brigade by 6 wickets at the Wankhede Stadium
