India To Not Participate In Asia Cup? BCCI Takes A MAJOR Step To Tackle Pakistan!

Amid rising tensions along the India-Pakistan border, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly made a significant decision. According to The Indian Express, India will not participate in the Asia Cup scheduled for September this year. An official announcement is expected soon. The BCCI has already informed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) about its decision.

Additionally, Team India will also skip the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup slated to be held in Sri Lanka next year. The ACC is currently chaired by Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as the President of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Future Participation Also on Hold

This move by the BCCI is seen as a firm response to Pakistan. A senior source from the board said, “This decision is part of a broader strategy to isolate Pakistan cricket. Team India cannot participate in a tournament overseen by a Pakistani minister. It’s about standing by the country’s sentiments. We’ve already communicated our withdrawal from the upcoming Women’s Emerging Asia Cup and have decided to suspend future collaborations in events associated with them. We remain in regular contact with the ACC on this matter.”

Can the Asia Cup Happen Without India?

The BCCI is fully aware that staging a successful Asia Cup without India’s participation will be a major challenge. The tournament is scheduled to be hosted in India in September, but uncertainty now clouds the event’s future. The Asia Cup typically features India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. Given that a large portion of cricket’s sponsorship and commercial interest comes from India, the absence of Team India could deal a significant blow to the tournament’s appeal and finances.

In 2023, Indo-Pak tensions had already impacted the Asia Cup. India had refused to travel to Pakistan, playing all its matches in Sri Lanka instead. That edition turned out to be a disappointment for Pakistan, as they failed to reach the final while India eventually lifted the trophy after defeating Sri Lanka.
