ICC Fines 3 Pakistani Players Before Champions Trophy 2025 – Here’s Why

Before the Champions Trophy 2025, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken major action against 3 Pakistani players. On Wednesday (12 February), the ICC fined the three players for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the tri-series match against South Africa in Karachi. These players include Shaheen Shah Afridi, Kamran Ghulam and Saud Shakeel.

During the South Africa vs Pakistan match in the Tri-Nation Series, there was an argument between the players of both the teams in the 28th over of the South African innings. During this, Shaheen deliberately stopped batsman Matthew Breetzke from taking a single run, after which there was a scuffle and a heated argument between the two players.

What Punishment Did Shaheen Afridi Get?

Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has been fined 25 percent of his match fee. He was found guilty of violating Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to “inappropriate physical contact with a player, support staff, umpire, match referee or any other person (including spectators) during an international match”.

These Players Were Also Fined

Apart from this, Saud Shakeel and substitute fielder Kamran Ghulam have been fined 10 percent of their match fees. Both of them were found guilty of celebrating very close to South African captain Temba Bavuma after he was run out in the 29th over. Both the players violated Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to “using words, gestures or actions that may be insulting or provoke an aggressive reaction when a batsman is out.”

One Demerit Point Added

One demerit point has been added to the disciplinary record of all three players. However, none of the players had any disciplinary violations in the last 24 months. All three players have accepted the sanctions imposed on them, due to which there will be no formal hearing in this matter.

Pakistan Created History

In this match, Pakistan defeated South Africa and registered a historic victory and made it to the final of the Tri-Nation Series. Now Pakistan will play the title match against New Zealand on February 14.
