Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been one of the most anticipated movies since Spider-Man: No Way Home. The story in the Benedict Cumberbatch-starrer begins after the events that take place in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Elizabeth Olsen’s WanderVision. Helmed by Sam Raimi, the MCU film has become the fourth highest Hollywood opener in India as it was released across theatres on May 6, 2022.
/The first-day collection of Doctor Strange 2 was Rs 27.50 crore, despite having a lesser screen count than Spider-Man: No Way Home. According to trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness minted Rs 27.50 crore on Day 1 while the highest opener till now has been Avengers: Endgame which collected Rs 53.10 crore.
He shared that the second-highest Hollywood opener has been Spider-Man: No Way Home with Rs 32.67 crore and the third highest-grossing Hollywood film was Avengers: Infinity War which minted Rs 31.30 on its Day.
Adarsh further added that Tom Holland-starrer, which was released in 2021, opened with only 50 per cent occupancy in Maharashtra and had the maximum screen count among all the four Hollywood films.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is MCU’s second film of the Marvel superhero. The first solo film was released back in 2016 and it was a huge hit at the box office. After Doctor Strange opened the door to a multiverse in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the makers had promised “madness” could be anticipated in the newly released film.
