Do not forget this name: Kevin Pietersen in awe of KKR all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer for taking IPL 2021 by storm

One of the hottest names debuting in the ongoing 14th season of the cash-rich elite T20 extravaganza — IPL 2021, Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) Venkatesh Iyer is making serious waves in the UAE leg of the top-flight Indian tournament as he continued impressing one and all with his all-round abilities on the cricket field.

The 26-year-old KKR find from Indore has already notched up 126 runs in 4 IPL matches, now is proving to be a real asset for Eoin Morgan & Co. as he picked up 2 wickets against Delhi Capitals (DC) in match no.41 of IPL 2021 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Iyer is being lauded by the greats of the gentleman’s game for the fantastic promise he has shown a glimpse of during the second phase of the all-important franchise cricket league so far.

Scoring at an average of 42, Iyer has now pleasantly surprised everyone glued on to their TV sets watching IPL 2021 as well as the larger international cricketing fraternity with his immaculate display with the ball on Tuesday against top-of-the-table side Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC). He picked up the wickets of Shimron Hetmyer and Axar Patel and gave away just 29 runs from his 4 overs at Sjarjah as he helped the two-time IPL champions KKR restrict DC to a total of 127. Surely, in comfortable reach for the Men in Purple to outclass DC and strengthen their case in the points table.

Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen was extremely impressed with Iyer’s performance so much so that KP took to his official Twitter handle to give the tall, lanky young gun a mention going ahead in the star-studded annual mega event. “Do not forget this name – Venkatesh Iyer!,” tweeted KP.

Iyer who came into the premier T20 competition with a reputation of a clean-hitting batsman has turned the tables on to the people who claimed to have known his talents inside out by actually showing that he is as good a seamer as any other doing the rounds at present.

A few matches earlier, the young lad who plays for Madhya Pradesh in the domestic season, was also seen chatting and taking some guidance from Indian skipper Virat Kohli.

Who knows, if he continues with the blitzkrieg in the shortest format the way he has so far, a maiden Team India call-up isn’t too far for the bright young KKR star ahead of the all-important ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE itself.
