Days after visiting the Indo-China border areas at Samdo in Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Jairam Thakur on Monday alleged that China is trying to build up its infrastructure along the state border that aligns with Tibet.
“It’s true that China is trying to strengthen its infrastructure in our border area that aligns with Tibet, we will inform the Centre about it,” Thakur said.
“They (China) have also begun some surveillance activities via road at a height higher than ours,” he added.
Thakur on Saturday visited the border areas following reports of some construction activities, including those of roads near the border.
Speaking to reporters during his visit, Thakur had earlier hit out at Congress state chief Kuldeep Singh Rathore for alleging that China is building infrastructure along the state border and asked him to shun politics on issues related to the border.
The Himachal CM said such statements on strategically important issues are unfortunate.
“There is no need of circulating this kind of misinformation,” ANI quoted Thakur as saying.
Rathore had alleged that China is building concrete houses and roads along the state border and that there have been “feeling of insecurity” among villagers amid the construction activities.
He had also claimed that he had apprised the Centre about these construction activities by the Chinese near the border last year only along with the state Governor and the Chief Minister, but the government had remained silent on these issues.
