Delhi Police arrested three men involved in an online cricket betting syndicate operating from a flat in Central Delhi. The police recovered Rs 20 lakh in cash, along with six mobile phones – two used for live streaming – one laptop, one tablet, and other equipment related to the gambling operation, including a cash counting machine.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Delhi), M Harsha Vardhan, said on Friday that the arrests followed a tip-off about a high-stakes online betting operation linked to the ongoing Big Bash League cricket matches in Australia. The accused had been attracting clients through phone calls and managing live bets during the matches. Two mobile phones were used for live commentary, while laptops and tablets were used to log bets systematically.

The accused admitted to using advanced i-Book software for betting during live cricket matches, the police reported.

A dedicated police team, led by Inspector Rohit Kumar, raided a property in LIG Flats, Motia Khan on January 2 and arrested Rohit Mahajan (46), the mastermind and a repeat offender; Nagesh Bhasin (55), who managed live streaming and client interactions; and Rajeev Chopra aka Kala (56), the property owner and on-site facilitator.

Mahajan, also known as Rinku, had been previously arrested in 2022 and 2024 under the Delhi Public Gambling Act for similar offenses. The three men have been charged under Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Act at Paharganj police station.
