Canada Strikes Back! From Alcohol To Household Appliances – Key US Products Hit By Retaliatory Tariffs

In a growing trade dispute, Canadian Finance Minister, Dominic LeBlanc, on Sunday released a full list of items that will be subjected to retaliatory tariffs on US goods. The goods are valued at an estimated USD 30 billion, according to reports. The products affected by these tariffs range from US-produced alcohol to household appliances including firearms, dairy items, vegetables & fruits, clothes, etc. This move comes in response to the recent imposition of a 25% tariff by US President Donald Trump on Canada and Mexico.

The already heated trade tensions were further escalated after Trump imposed an additional 10 percent levy on goods from China. Meanwhile, LeBlanc called the imposition of tariffs by America unjustified. He announced, “Canada is moving forward with 25% tariffs on U.S. goods totaling C$155 billion.” In a post on X, LeBlanc emphasized, “Now is the time to choose products made right here in Canada.” He urged Canadian citizens to check the labels and choose Canada.

While announcing a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico on Sunday, President Trump justified his action by stating, “This was done through the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) because of the major threat of illegal aliens and deadly drugs killing our Citizens, including fentanyl. We need to protect Americans, and it is my duty as President to ensure the safety of all. I made a promise in my Campaign to stop the flood of illegal aliens and drugs from pouring across our Borders, and Americans overwhelmingly voted in favor of it.”

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in an X post stated, “We will always stand up for Canada.”
