The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a dig at the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) as poll strategist Prashant Kishor has enrolled himself as a voter from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s home turf Bhabanipur.
The BJP said Kishor, who was the poll adviser of the Mamata Banerjee-led party in the recent West Bengal elections, can be called a “bohiragato” being enrolled as a voter in the Bhabanipur constituency where a by-election will be held on September 30.
Bhabanipur is set to witness a high-octane bypoll with BJP pitting Priyanka Tibrewal against TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee. Winning from the seat is crucial for Banerjee to retain her chief minister’s chair.
According to the Election Commission website, a person with the name Prashant Kishor was included in the list of the electorate in Bhabanipur during the addition process in January-April, long before the by-election was announced.
Claiming that PK (poll strategist Prashant Kishor) is on the list, who is the founder of I-PAC, BJP media cell in-charge Saptarshi Choudhury tweeted in Bengali, “At last Prashant Kishor becomes the voter of Bhabanipur. So, we are not sure if the daughter of Bengal is now in favour of a bahiragato (outsider) voter.”
TMC to send Prashant Kishor to Rajya Sabha?
The speculations are rife that the TMC may send Kishor to the Rajya Sabha. Hindustan Times quoted Veteran TMC leader Saugata Roy as saying that if one wants to contest the Rajya Sabha elections it is necessary to become a voter of that state.
“I see nothing wrong in this. He is an Indian citizen and can become a voter of any state. Secondly, if anyone wants to contest the Rajya Sabha polls, he has to be a voter of that state. I don’t know his plans. He is staying in a house and that’s why he became a voter,” he said.
Earlier this month, TMC MP Arpita Ghosh had resigned from the Rajya Sabha on the instructions of the party. The seat is still vacant.
