The driver of the Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas used Artificial Intelligence to guide him on the attack, officials said on Tuesday. The shocking claim comes almost a week after the accused identified as Matthew Alan Livelsberger shot himself.
Las Vegas Police according to writings further stated that the driver didn’t intend to kill anyone, reports said. Investigations revealed that Livelsberger searched ChatGPT for information related to explosive targets, how fast a round of ammunition fired would go and legal laws for fireworks in Arizona.
NBC News quoted Las Vegas Metro-politian Police Department Sheriff, Kevin McMahill as saying, “I think this is the incident that I’m aware of on U.S. soil where ChatGPT is utilized to help an individual build a particular device.” He even called it ‘a concerning moment’.
In an emailed statement, OpenAI said it was committed to examining its tools used in a responsible manner and refuse any harmful instructions. “In this case, ChatGPT responded with information already publicly available on the internet and provided warnings against harmful or illegal activities. We’re working with law enforcement to support their investigation,” the statement said.
Livelsberger was working with the 10th Special Forces Group in Germany and was on leave when the incident took place, CNN earlier reported. LMcMahill informed on Thursday (local time) at a press conference that the driver shot himself in the head prior to the blast.
