In a span of few weeks, music aficionados across the globe lost two priceless gems – Lata Mangeshkar who passed away due to COVID-19 complications followed by Disco King Bappi Lahiri, who passed away due to sleep apnea. While Lahiri’s prayer meet will be held later today, his son and musician Bappa Lahiri recently spoke about his father’s last few days and a few details about the legend that stand testimony to his magnanimity on as well as off-screen.

Apart from his groovy voice and hit compositions, Lahiri’s trademark was his gold jewellery. Not a lot of people know but the singer attributed his success to gold ever since he delivered his first hit song after receiving a gold chain from his mother. Since then, Lahiri was always snapped in layers of gold jewelley everywhere he went and fans often wondered if he wore it at home too.

“Well, he definitely wore it each time we went out. I remember my friends ragging me in school, saying that your father dresses so flashily and wears sunglasses even in daylight. I used to ask him why he needs sunglasses at 6 am. But if he was out, he always wanted to be tip-top. He chose his own clothes. He chose his own colours.”

Bappa lives with his wife and son in LA and flew down to India for his father’s funeral. Speaking about his plans to go back, the musician said that he intends to stay here for longer and spend time with his mother and be with his family during these difficult times.

Bappi Lahiri was admitted to the hospital for most of the month and was discharged after showing signs of recovery. But after sudden deterioration, the singer passed away due to OSA.
