A day after the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the Delhi assembly election results, Delhi’s outgoing Chief Minister Atishi submitted her resignation to Lt Governor V.K. Saxena on Sunday, following the crushing defeat of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the assembly polls.
The outgoing Delhi CM submitted her resignation to Lt. Governor Saxena at Raj Niwas.
The BJP made a comeback in Delhi after over 27 years, securing 48 of the 70 assembly seats. The AAP won 22, while the Congress failed to win any seats in the February 5 elections.
The BJP is expected to stake claim to power next week after Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from a foreign visit, party leaders said, PTI reported.
Atishi took office as Chief Minister in September last year after AAP convenor and her predecessor, Arvind Kejriwal, resigned following corruption allegations.
