Bollywood superstar Anushka Sharma is all set to essay the role of Indian women’s team pacer Jhulan Goswami in her biopic. One of the best fast bowlers to have played for the Indian team, Goswami has been a great servant of the game and continues to be a vital cog in the team across formats. Anushka will be portraying her life journey on the silver screen.

The rumours of Anushka starring in Jhulan’s biopic had gone viral in January 2020 when the Bollywood actress was seen with the Indian cricketer at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Anushka was seen wearing an Indian jersey in the picture which surfaced on social media.

While there has been no official announcement yet, as per a report in Bollywood Hungama, the movie is set to hit the floor by the end of this year. As per a source, the movie is currently in the scripting stage and a director will be finalised soon post which Anushka will start her preparations for the biopic.

“It is not shelved for sure. The film is under development and in the scripting stage. Once the script is approved, the director would be finalized after which Anushka would start the preparation. And only then the film will go on floors,” a source was quoted as saying by Bollywood Hungama.

Anushka is currently in England with her husband Virat Kohli and daughter Vamika ahead of team India’s five-match Test series against the hosts. India lost the WTC final against New Zealand post which the players and their families are currently enjoying a break ahead of the Test series which gets underway next month.

“Anushka is enjoying motherhood right now and she and Vamika are also accompanying Virat on his cricket tours. So the film won’t go on floors before 2021-end. But it’ll definitely be something to watch out for. Jhulan’s journey has been inspiring and moreover, Anushka is sure to do complete justice to the role,” said the source

Jhulan too is currently in England with the Indian women’s team and recently featured in the three-match ODI series between India and England. India lost the ODI series 2-1 after drawing the one-off Test match against the hosts. They will now play a three-match T20I series starting from July 09.

Goswami, who made her debut for India in the year 2002, has so far played 11 Tests, 189 ODIs, and 69 T20Is picking up 41, 236, and 56 wickets across formats. She is the leading wicket-taker for India in ODIs.
