This Diwali season’s Great Indian Festival sale, which began on September 27, has seen strong demand for premium products across categories like televisions, smartphones, and large appliances, said a senior Amazon official.
According to reports from PTI, Amazon India Vice President Saurabh Srivastava shared that during this year’s Amazon Great Indian Festival, Apple iPad sales grew by 10 times, while Samsung tablets saw a fivefold increase.

“One clear trend that was there is premiumisation. When we look at it, whether it is televisions or fashion and beauty, gaming laptops, home and kitchen appliances, we have seen a clear trend of premiumisation. People are preferring more premium products. Again, this is not limited to just top cities,” Srivastava said.

Large-screen TVs account for about 30% of the sales, with demand jumping a great gap from last year, he said. People opted for Samsung and Xiaomi, followed by Sony.

High Demand For Electronics

The Vice President of Amazon said that there is a huge demand in the market for electronic gadgets. According to sales and previous customer choices Apple and Samsung, both are considered great brands for tablets. In The Great Indian Festival Sales on Amazon, Apple tablets saw 10x more demand than last year’s sales. Whereas, Sales of Samsung tablets increased 5x compared to last year.

There was also a spike in sales and demand for major appliances, such as washing machines, refrigerators, and air conditioners. According to him, premium segments also saw a 30% in sales when he compared it with last year. Premium models he especially mentioned include front-loading washers, side-by-side refrigerators, and any air conditioner above 1.5 tons.

“In tablets, Apple and Samsung are premium products. Apple tablets grew 10 times, and Samsung tablets 5 times year on year (YoY). When you think about large appliances, obviously, these are washing machines and refrigerators and ACs, but premium ones like front-load washing machines, or side-by-side refrigerators, or bigger than 1.5-ton ACs, grew 30 per cent YoY,” Srivastava said.

Amazon Vice President, Srivastava also addressed the massive 20% increse in cutomer viting during AGIF 2024. This percentage is compared to the festive season sale during the same period a year ago.

“The Amazon Great Indian Festival 2024 witnessed 140 crore customer visits — the highest ever. More than 85 per cent customers were from non-metro cities,” Srivastava said.

Amazon India also saw 50% Y-O-Y growth in B2B customers who made their first purchase from Amazon Business.
