It was on July 3, 2021, when Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao shared an official statement and announced that they are ending their marriage after 15 years. It was in December 2005, when Aamir and Kiran got married, and the two have a son Azad Rao Khan through surrogacy. The news shocked all and left everyone saddened. In the official statement, Aamir and Kiran announced that they were living separately for a long and have now decided to end their marriage and get divorced.

Despite announcing the divorce, Aamir and Kiran will still co-parent their son Azad and will be a family. The two will also continue to work for their Paani foundation and now, for the first time after announcing their divorce, the two have made an appearance.

In the video, that has now gone viral, Aamir and Kiran can be seen talking about their decision of parting ways and said that they are happy and want everyone to pray for them. In the video, Aamir also held Kiran’s hand and said “hum dono khush hai.” The actor started by saying, “Ap logo ko dukh bhi hua hoga, acha nhi laga hoga, shock bhi laga hoga, hum bas itna kehna chahte hai ki hum dono bahut khush hai. Hum bas itna kehna chahte ha ki hum dono bahut khush hai aur ek hi paiwar hai. Humarey rishte me change aya hai par hum ek dusrey ke sath hi hai. Humare liye dua kijiye.”

(Loosely translates to: You must be hurt, shocked, and saddened after hearing the news. We just want to say that we two are happy and we are one family only. Our relationship has changed, but we are still together. Pray for us.)

A part of their divorce announcement reads, “In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy, and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect, and love. Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives – no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other.”

At present, Aamir and Kiran are together where the actor is shooting for his upcoming film Laal Singh Chaddha, which is the Hindi remake of Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump.
