India’s First Climate Change Station Launched In J&K’s Udhampur – What All We Know?

Union Minister Jitendra Singh  launched India’s first climate change station in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district. The Central University of Jammu’s Himalayan High Altitude Atmospheric and Climate Research Center aims to study the unique atmospheric and climate conditions of the Himalayan region.

“This initiative will enhance our understanding of climate change and its impacts on the environment,” said an official spokesperson.

Union Minister Singh launched the centre at Mandlote village in Chenani tehsil, and he was accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir Minister of Science and Technology Satish Sharma.

“Landed at Nathatop, Udhampur district for the launch of India’s first-ever and the world’s second climate change station in the Himalayan region by the Ministry of Earth Sciences. Warmly received by senior officials of central and Union Territory governments, as well as a large number of local people,” said Union Minister Singh in a post on X.

In another post on ‘X’, the Union Minister wrote, “As a landmark global initiative in the Himalayas, launched first-ever “Himalayan High-Altitude Atmospheric & Climate Center” for accurate climate/weather forecast, study and research under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, in Nathatop higher reaches of Chenani, district Udhampur, Jammu And Kashmir Science & Technology Minister Sh. @satishsharmajnk and senior officials from the Central & UT governments were present.”
