Adani Group Operated-Vizhinjam Port Welcomes MSC Türkiye, World’s Largest Eco-Friendly Container Ship

The MSC Turkiye, recognised as the world’s largest and most fuel-efficient container ship by design, has arrived at Vizhinjam International Seaport-operated by Adani Group. This marks the first time the massive vessel has entered South Asian waters, according to port authorities. The ship, measuring 399.9 meters in length, 61.3 meters in width, and 33.5 meters in depth, can carry approximately 24,346 standard containers. It is noted for having the lowest carbon footprint per container and a significant reduction in CO2 emissions per transport.

Vizhinjam International Seaport, operated by Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd (APSEZ), is India’s first Mega Transshipment Container Terminal. This world-class, future-ready port is the only transshipment hub in the Indian subcontinent, closest to the international shipping routes, and centrally located on the Indian coastline. It is just 10 nautical miles (19 km) from the busy east-west shipping channel that connects Europe, the Persian Gulf, Southeast Asia and the Far East.

Last September, the MSC Claude Girardet, an ultra-large container vessel (ULCV) from the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), docked at the Vizhinjam International Seaport. The 399.99-meter-long, 61.5-meter-wide vessel, with a container capacity of 24,116 TEUs, was the largest container ship to visit India at that time.
