A new twist has emerged amidst the ongoing investigation into the stabbing case involving Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. Advocate Sandeep Sherkhane representing the accused Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, has made shocking claims regarding his alleged Bangladeshi origin.
Shortly after Shehzad’s arrest yesterday morning, Sherkhane said, “Police have no proof that he is a Bangladeshi national.” He claimed that his client has been in India for more than 7 years now. “His family lives in Mumbai. This is a clear-cut violation of 43A. No proper probe has been carried out,” he added.
Sherkhane alleged, “they (Police) said he came to India six months ago, it is a wrong statement.” The advocate challenged the assertion, stating, there are procedural lapses in the case and questioned the foundation on which police custody was granted. He refuted the allegations on the accused, stating, “the notice was not complied as per the guidelines of the SC.”
“Police custody was given. There is no reference of threatening of life and murder in the remand copy, FIR copy. Despite that, sections will be implicated,” Sherkhane said.
He further alleged that there was no intention of murder and he has certain documents to present, they will arrive. I will show them at the time of bail application. “He is frightened now. The police custody should not have been given. He has been made scapegoat, let police offer their versions, we will present evidence,” he added.
Another advocate of accused, Dinesh Prajapati has also refuted the allegations made against his client, criticizing the insufficient grounds provided in the case.
After an extensive manhunt, Mumbai Police on Sunday morning arrested Shehzad for attacking Saif Ali Khan at his Mumbai residence. According to Zone 9 DCP Dixit Gedam, Shariful Islam Shehzad is a 31-year-old Bangladeshi National who entered India with a fake name – ‘Vijay Das’.
