2022 Hurun global rich list: Mukesh Ambani richest man in India, Asia; Uday Kotak 3rd richest banker

While is India is home to many millionaires and billionaires, Reliance Industries Limited chairman Mukesh Ambani was the only Indian to feature in the world’s top 10 billionaires list published by research and luxury publishing group Hurun India 2022’s Global Rich List, in association with realty firm M3M.
With a net worth of a $103 billion, Ambani not only just earned the title of being the ‘Richest Man in India’ but also in Asia, reporting a 24 per cent surge in his wealth. The RIL chairman also earned the ‘Richest Telecom Entrepreneur’ title. According to the Hurun report, Ambani multiplied his inherited wealth 10-fold in 20 years from $10 billion in 2002.
Meanwhile, Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani wasn’t much behind Ambani and was named the ‘Richest Energy Entrepreneur’, 12th on the list. The most wealth over the last year was added by Adani who added $49 billion to his $81 billion net worth.
The top 3 billionaires in the world are SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk, Amazon’s executive chairman Jeff Bezos, and LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault.
Uday Kotak, the CEO of Kotak Mahindra Bank, won the ‘World’s Third Richest Banker’ title with a wealth of $16 billion.
HCL Technologies’ Shiv Nadar, with a wealth of $28 billion, was at the 46th spot in the global rich list. He is also the 3rd richest software and services billionaire globally.
Serum Institute of India founder Cyrus S Poonawalla reported a jump of 41 per cent to his wealth to $26 billion. At rank 55, Poonawalla was also given the title of ‘Richest Healthcare Billionaire’ in the world.
Another Indian on the rich list is ArcelorMittal Executive Chairman Lakshmi N Mittal at the 60th position with $25 billion wealth. SP Hinduja with $23 billion wealth was placed at 67th position, and Kumar Mangalam Birla with $18 billion net worth at 104th place.
World’s 3rd richest entrepreneur from the education sector is also from India – Byju Raveendran – who entered the billionaires list 2 years ago. He has a wealth of $3.3 billion.
Meanwhile, Nykaa founder Falguni Nayar has been mentioned among the newest billionaires category with a net worth of $7.6 billion.
“The 2022 M3M Hurun Global Rich List ranked 3,381 billionaires from 2,557 companies and 69 countries. 2,071 saw their wealth increase, of which 490 were new faces. 942 saw their wealth decrease, and there were 129 drop-offs. 35 died. 368 saw their wealth stay the same. The average age is 64,” the statement read.
Other highlights of the report:
-India is home to 215 billionaires and 58 new additions.
-India continues to be the 3rd largest billionaire producing nation in the world.
-India has the richest aviation billionaires in the world.
-IndiGo’s Rakesh Gangwal and Rahul Bhatia are the wealthiest aviation billionaires with a wealth of $4.3 billion and $4.2 billion, respectively.
-Mumbai is the billionaire-headquarter with 72 rich men, followed by New Delhi (51) and Bengaluru (28).
